How Much Time Do You Have in a Day

So – How much time do you have in a day? To answer this let’s review some basics.

Science shows us that a day is simply the measurement of the earth completing one full rotation. If this is true – we only get 23 hours 56 minutes (according to Nasa)

This means that the standard 24 hours is just not true and you in a poof have missed out on 4 minutes every day.

No worries – that’s where leap years come into play.

For the purpose of this article – we’re sticking with the 24-hr model.

Now that we got that out of the way – time to delve in. 🙂

Time is Relative to Your Age

The older you get – the more that time fly’s by. Ever wonder why that is? Let’s explore.

We’ll compare three age groups: 5, 25, and 45-year-olds. We’ll make an assumption that each will live to the age of 100.

5 Year Old

For a five-year-old 1 year represents 20% of their life: 1 divided by 5.

20 Year Old

For a twenty-year-old 1 year represents 5% of their life: 1 divided by 20.

45 Year Old

For a forty-five-year-old, 1 year represents 2.2% of their life: 1 divided by 45.

So what does all this mean?

How is Time Relative to Your Age?

Time is made up of not only unit measurements, but the human experience as well. Think about it. You relate memorable events in your life to a specific year. You also relate time with the number of occurrences something special has happened.

Think of how many holidays you have been through, years of marriage or anniversaries, jobs, number of years at a job, how many times you’ve brushed your teeth? The list goes on-and-on.

A 45-year-old typically has far greater experience in these things than a five-year-old – thus they relate to time as becoming much faster.

Now factor in the human body.

Over time, the internal systems begin to slow – metabolism, hours of sleep needed, biological clocks, etc.

I can attest that my own body is making changes.

Partying in my 30’s is much different than partying in my 20’s. My internal systems simply are telling me that those days are gone and more recovery is needed.

All of these factors make up the human experience of time and what it truly is to us.

Wrapping it Up – How Much Time do You Have in a Day
